Brett Jollie says these are the key attributes that make a great leader?
Embracing Change
By Leigh Sujanto
“Leadership does not have a one-size-fits-all definition and means different things to different people, but while definitions may vary, the general sentiment remains the same. Leaders are people who know how to achieve goals and inspire people along the way. Leadership is the capacity to translate vision into reality”, said Brett Jollie as he addressed an audience of 50 young professionals at the Circuit event on 6 March.
The Circuit is the FSC’s exclusive under 35 event series that provides a platform for the brightest young minds in the financial services sector to come together to further their ambitions, insights and success. The events include thought-provoking debate and unparalleled networking opportunities.
Brett, who is Managing Director - Australasia at Aberdeen Standard Investments, spoke about his 20-year career to date, specifically about the opportunities and the challenges he has faced in the ever-changing financial services industry.
He spoke about leadership, and the importance of effectively managing change, “Change is inevitable – without it we stagnate. Change provides opportunities. Embrace change”.
Brett is also a big believer that the success of a business hinges on having the right culture in place, and that balance is critical to sustaining success.
“You do not have to work 60-hour weeks to be successful. That is not sustainable. Working hard means working smart, working efficiently, not working long. It is essential that you have a good work life balance, and leaders need to set an example in this regard”.
