Welcome to my final update for 2017.
FSC November and December News
By Sally Loane
Welcome to our final FSC News for 2017.
The FSC has worked tirelessly on all policy and event fronts throughout 2017 and I’d like to congratulate my team on a job well done, and I know we are all looking forward to a well earned break.
The Royal Commission into Financial Services
The Prime Minister announced a Royal Commission into Banks and Financial Services on 30 November. If you would like to read the Prime Minister’s media release and the draft terms of reference, click here.
On 6 December I went on Ticky Fullerton’s eponymous SKY Business television program and spoke about our positive reaction to the announcement here.
Superannuation Member Outcomes Bill
The superannuation “Member Outcomes” reform bill which we strongly supported, and which would have delivered greater transparency and consumer protections failed to get through the Senate and has been moved to early 2018.
BT Breakfast with The Hon Joe Hockey
On 14 December – a year to the day since we hosted the Prime Minister – join us for breakfast with Joe Hockey, Australian Ambassador to the US and former Treasurer.
With US and other foreign affairs dominating the news cycle, and the importance of international relations at an all-time high, join us and hear first hand from our Ambassador to the United States. The Honorable Joe Hockey will discuss his unique insights into the US political system, including our relationship with the Trump Administration as it enters its second year and what the strategic alliance looks like over the next 12 months. Future Leaders Award Winner for 2018
The 2017 winner of the FSC’s Future Leaders Award is Yash Sodhi of Challenger. Judges were impressed with the range and skills of our Future Leaders Award contestants who all presented their vision for the future of superannuation. A huge thanks to our judges and all the entrants for their time and ideas.

You can read Yash’s paper on his SmarterSuper idea here.
The Circuit with Dr Kirstin Ferguson
On 28 November a crowd of young leaders spent two wonderful hours with non-executive director and founder of Twitter’s #CelebratingWomen, Dr Kirstin Ferguson. Dr Ferguson shared her inspiring war stories alongside success stories and tips. The feedback from attendees was highly complimentary. We look forward to hosting more Circuit Speaker Series events in 2018.
Thank You to Our Members
As the financial services’ peak industry body, we work hard on behalf of our Members and Australian consumers of their products and services. We couldn’t achieve the outcomes we do without the ongoing expertise and support of our Members across the various policy areas.
A huge thanks to each and every one of you for another momentous year. I’d like to take this opportunity to wish all of you a safe and happy Christmas and holiday season and we look forward to a busy and productive 2018.
