Welcome to Issue 54 of the FSC Policy Update. Parliament is scheduled to resume on Tuesday 3 August for four weeks of sitting across August and early September, with only a single week break in the middle of August.  

Welcome to Issue 53 of the FSC Policy Update. Parliament sat for two weeks in June and passed three separate pieces of superannuation legislation, including the ‘Your Future, Your Super’, ‘More Flexible Super’ and ‘SMSF’ Bills. Their passage represents a win for the Government, given the hard-fought nature of the reforms, and will result in significant reform to the superannuation, funds management and life insurance sectors.

Welcome to Issue 52 of the FSC Policy Update. Parliament is in the middle of an extended period of sitting over May and June before a long winter recess that runs from the end of June until early August.

Welcome to Issue 51 of the FSC Policy Update. The Government released the draft regulations for the ‘Your Future, Your Super’ package, completing the picture on the most significant overhaul of the superannuation since the Stronger Super reforms.

In 2021, this member briefing on the main legislative and regulatory changes across the financial services industry will be issued monthly.  Parliament resumed for the last two weeks of February and there was progress on a range of outstanding policy issues. The Parliament passed the Royal Commission bill implementing the annual renewal recommendations, the Government introduced its ‘Your Future, Your Super’ reforms to the House of Representatives, but had not yet released the crucial Regulations, and a review into AFCA was commenced.

I provide an update here on work the FSC is doing to prepare template Target Market Determinations (TMDs).

Welcome to Issue 47 of the FSC Policy Update – a fortnightly member briefing on the main legislative and regulatory changes across the financial services industry. Parliament has entered its final sitting period of the year, with a continued focus on the Government’s Royal Commission reforms and the ‘Your Future, Your Super’ reforms. Parliament has re-opened to external visitors, and the FSC is pleased to have been able to return to Canberra for in-person meetings with the Government, Opposition and public service.

Welcome to Issue 45 of the FSC Policy Update – a fortnightly member briefing on the main legislative and regulatory changes across the financial services industry. Parliament resumed for a short, one week sitting on Monday 9 November, the second last sitting period of the year. The FSC continues to expect a suite of Royal Commission (RC) bills to be introduced to Parliament before the end of the calendar year, as previously indicated by the Government, but for many of these bills to also be referred to a committee process for further examination.

The 2020 Budget released on the evening of 6 October packed a punch, with superannuation reforms announced that will have significant downstream implications for life insurers, fund managers and financial advisers. The FSC is closely engaging with the Government on these reforms and looking to ensure the ‘Your Future, Your Super’ package does not result in poor consumer outcomes.

The Government announced significant reforms to superannuation in the Federal Budget, including the implementation of the Royal Commission’s ‘one default account’ recommendation, a policy priority of the FSC’s, along with new APRA powers and controls on the use of members’ retirement savings.
